From this spot high above the Embarcadero, accompanied by the sounds a trumpeter blasting out Journey tunes below (naturally), I was treated to an unobstructed view of the moonrise behind the twinkling lights of the new Bay Lights installation by Leo Villareal on the Bay Bridge. After noticing the installation and testing from afar at home, this was my first chance to check them out up close. I ended up staring at the patterns of light for far longer than I planned and walked away impressed. I’m not sure how much more testing is in order, but the installation is set to officially open with a Grand Lighting on March 5 and remain for two years, so you should have plenty of time to check it out. Also of note, the Ferry Building and Building 1 on Treasure Island in the distance, along with several other buildings throughout SF, are lit up in red and gold tonight in honor of the 49ers heading to the Super Bowl. While I think they looked a bit better in orange and I’m more of a Seahawks kinda guy when it comes to football, I suppose I can support the local team at this point. 🙂
